Smilla's Sense of Snow

Smilla Jaspersen, who is half Danish and half Greenlander, tries to figure out why a small boy dies when he falls from the roof of her apartment building. Smilla thinks something is wrong, so she follows a trail of clues that leads to a secretive company that has sent several mysterious expeditions to Greenland. Scenes for the movie were shot in Copenhagen and western Greenland. The movie was shown at the 47th Berlin International Film Festival, where director Bille August was up for the Golden Bear.
