A man who has been divorced falls in love, but cannot get over his ex-wife. This has humorous implications on his romantic life. Adaptation of Dan Wakefield's novel. Burt Reynolds is a handsome middle-aged guy who experiences a confidence problem when his ambitious singer wife (Candice Bergen) dumps him, until he begins a new relationship with an equally insecure teacher (Jill Clayburgh). But when the wife attempts reconciliation by seducing him, followed by a very agonizing song she made for him, he recognizes where his devotion rests.
