As children, Nick and his younger brother look after their younger brother as their mother consumes herself to the point of insanity. However, the baby dies, and both brothers hold themselves responsible. Nick has been released from prison after serving time for an incident that occurred many years ago. He drinks heavily, lives in a shelter, and is attempting to assist an old buddy. When Nick's mother passes away, he meets up with his brother at the burial. Despite the fact that he is a single parent to a small son, the brother is also supporting a drug habit that is getting out of control. When the opportunity presents itself, he decides to become a drug dealer in order to provide a better future for his son. The two brothers eventually come face to face again.
