A little kid finds the strength to battle an evil land lord in the ancient west who wants to seize his family's farm and destroy the peaceful town in which they live. The young lad draws on the inspiration of legendary western characters to find the strength to do so. When Daniel Hackett sees that his father Jonas has been seriously injured by the nefarious Stiles, his initial impulse is to urge his family to flee the danger and give up their life on the farm, which Daniel has come to despise anyway. However, Daniel is unable to persuade his family to do either of these things. When he went to a lake by himself to attempt to figure out what to do, he fell asleep on a boat and woke up in the wild west, in the company of "tall story" legends like Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, and Calamity Jane. He tried to figure out what to do, but he ended himself in the wild west. Together, they fight the same evildoers that Daniel is up against in his "real" world, and the conflict culminates in a heroic encounter in which the child stands up to Stiles and his henchmen, and rallies his neighbors to fight back against land grabbers who want to destroy their town.
