The Assault

The 24th of December in 1994 was a Saturday. At the Algiers airport, four GIA terrorists board an Air France A300 plane. 227 passengers are on board the Airbus heading for Paris. No one knows what the terrorists' goals are; all that is known is that they are well-armed and ruthless. They demand that their "brothers in arms" be freed immediately and that the plane take off immediately. The plane is ultimately allowed to leave after protracted and contentious negotiations between the French and Algerian governments. At the heart of the action are three main characters: a member of the GIGN, Carole Jeanton, an ambitious technocrat willing to go to any length to profit personally from the events, and Yahia Abdallah, a determined jihadist who grew up in the slums of Algiers and was being manipulated by an obscure GIA envoy, Ali Touchent.
