Second novel by Thornton Wilder, The Bridge of San Luis Rey was published in 1927 to critical acclaim. There are multiple interconnected characters who die in the collapse of an Inca rope-fiber suspension bridge in Peru, and events leading up to their deaths. As a result of the tragedy, a friar enquires into the lives of the victims, seeking a cosmic explanation for their deaths. The novel was a Pulitzer Prize winner.
