In 1975, two young women were brutally tortured, raped, and killed by three wealthy young men who had gone to the prestigious all-boys Catholic high school San Leone Magno in Rome. The event, which became known as the Circeo massacre, shocked and fascinated the whole country. It showed the violence and dark side of the upper middle class at a time when family and religion were seen as being in danger.
