A homeless vagabond named Charlie finds work as a handyman in a circus and eventually falls in love with the daughter of the circus owner. The girl begins a romantic relationship with a charming young performer, completely oblivious to Charlie's feelings for her. When Charlie steps in for an injured tightrope walker, his many talents help him become the highlight of the performance. He is kicked out of the company after he saves the girl from her abusive father, but he eventually makes his way back and begs the handsome performer to marry the girl. Following the wedding, the father makes a last-ditch effort to convince his children to return to the circus. Charlie is employed once more, but he is not brought along when the caravan travels to the next destination.
