Dr. Josh Keyes, a geophysicist, has made the startling discovery that the earth's inner core has ceased its rotation due to the action of some unknown factor. Because of the increasing weakening of the planet's magnetic field, the planet's atmosphere is beginning to actually fall apart at the seams, which will have devastating effects. In order to find a solution to the problem, Keyes and a group of the most brilliant scientists from all around the world venture deep below the ground. Their objective is to explode a device that will make the core operational again.
