Alfred Hitchcock is regarded as one of the best filmmakers ever. Hitchcock's leading females were cool, gorgeous, and ideally blonde. Tippi Hedren, an unknown fashion model, got her big break when Hitchcock's wife spotted her on TV. When Hedren was brought to Universal Studios, she was surprised when the director promptly cast her in his next film, 1963's The Birds. Despite the film's ambitious and horrific production, Hedren had no idea that the most difficult component of the picture came from behind the camera.
