Women have traditionally been underrepresented in the realm of jazz, whether as vocalists or pianists. There has been little written about the immensely gifted female trumpet players, saxophonists, and drummers who sought for notoriety but were denied any serious job by men who didn't want women on their bandstands in the first place. This documentary traces the history of all-girl bands, as well as the struggles of the few who managed to break through the male-dominated music industry, and brings us up to the present day, where brilliantly gifted young women are going toe-to-toe with the greatest jazz musicians of their generation.
