The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag

Betty Lou works as a librarian in a small town in the Midwest. Her husband is a police detective who treats her as if she is unimportant. Betty Lou is the ultimate mouse in every sense of the word. Betty Lou discovers the murder weapon when a gangland figure is inexplicably murdered in town, but she is unable to bring anyone's attention to it in order to inform them (we're talking extremely mousey, here). Finally, in a fit of rage, she pulls the trigger in a lavatory and, when transported to the police station, asserts that she is the perpetrator of the murder. It has the desired impact, and others are paying attention to her because of this. She's on her way, thanks to a few suggestions from the whores in her cell block about social graces.
