When Bobby is killed in a car accident, he is not permitted to enter heaven and is instead relegated to one of the lower levels until he has served sufficiently as a guardian angel to earn his place in heaven. One of his responsibilities is caring for Lenny, a talented young man who adores Sharon, the most beautiful student in his class. But she barely notices him, therefore he is on the verge of committing suicide. Bobby stops this by dressing Lenny as a playboy and tough person so that he may get what he wants, although knowing that this is not the greatest solution.
