Paloma is an 11-year-old who is very serious and very smart, but she is also very bored and wants to die on her 12th birthday. Interested in art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and the lives of those around her, making sharp, sometimes hilarious, observations about the world around her. It's only when Paloma's death date nears that Paloma meets two people who make her question her gloomy outlook on life: the grumpy janitor of the building and an elegant neighbor who isn't sure what she is.
