1919. Honored for his First World War service, Georges Sarret is a prominent lawyer. He dates Philomène Schmidt, a young German woman who lost her job and house. Georges finds Philomène a spouse, who dies naturally a month after the wedding, to keep her in France. Georges marries Catherine, Philomène's sister, to an old man who dies suddenly to profit from his life insurance. When Marcel Chambon, a plan collaborator, blackmails them, Georges and his two lovers must kill him and his mistress.
