Ireland, 1920. Rachel and Edward, Anglo-Irish twins, live a peculiar existence in their dilapidated family estate. Each night, an evil entity (The Lodgers) takes over the property and imposes three conditions on the twins: they must be in bed by midnight, they may not allow an outsider past the threshold, and if one tries to flee, the other's life is jeopardized. When Sean, a damaged war veteran, returns to the surrounding village, he is drawn to the intriguing Rachel, who then begins to transgress The Lodgers' regulations. Rachel is dragged into a violent fight with her brother, as well as the curse that follows them.
