Based on Willis Hall's play. A troop of British soldiers is out in the jungle capturing jungle sounds and troop noises so that the recordings can be played back to divert the enemy's attention to their location. As they go closer to the base camp, they find themselves increasingly out of radio range, until the only channel they can receive clearly is a Japanese broadcast. They've realized they're only about ten to fifteen kilometers from a Japanese camp! The tension is heightened further by unruly and publicly confessed "non-hero" Private Bamforth, who has nothing but bad things to say about everyone, most notably Corporal Johnstone (who holds an equal dislike for Bamforth). When a Japanese soldier is taken as a prisoner, each man's true nature is revealed.
