The Long Shot
In this book, Annie Garret moves with her husband, Ross, and their daughter, Taylor, from Colorado to a ranch in northern California. Ross abandons them after he doesn't get a job. They move back to Colorado. Mary Lou O'Brien owns a stud farm where Annie works as a ranch hand and stable person. Tolo, Taylor and Annie's prized racehorse, is there, and Annie has no money and no friends. She gets a job there as a ranch hand and stable person. Annie has had a lot of problems in her own life, but she decides to go on a trip with her horse by competing in a high-stakes riding competition. Her horse goes blind because it got sick while she was competing in the race. Annie has to work hard through her hardships in order to do what no one else has ever done.
