The More You Ignore Me

Warm and funny, The More You Ignore Me is an adaptation of Jo Brand's best-selling novel about an unorthodox family in 1980s rural England. As Gina's mental health deteriorates, the movie follows her struggle to be a good mother and wife. Her fascination with the local weatherman leads to her admission to a nearby mental health facility, where she remains for the rest of her life. Alice, her eldest child, has difficulty relating to her mother, who is on heavy medication, as she grows older. Alice causes havoc when she devises a scheme to reunite with her mother, which divides the family forever and culminates in a dramatic scene. With the help of The Smiths' songs, The More You Ignore Me offers a glimpse into the lives of a family coping with mental health challenges and the effect they have on them.
