Howard Kemp has been on the hunt for serial killer Ben Vandergroat for quite some time. He teams up with prospector Jesse Tate and former Union soldier Roy Anderson in the Colorado Rockies. They agree to help Kemp for a small fee, believing he is a sheriff. When they apprehend Vandergroat, he informs them that Kemp is seeking a $5,000 reward. After demanding equal shares, the uneasy alliance heads to Kansas, where Vandergroat attempts to turn them against each other.
