Tom Thompson, an aspiring architect, is informed by Ruth Abernathy that his best buddy, "Bill," has committed himself. Except that Tom and his skeptical buddies had never met Bill. As a result, when Tom decides to deliver the eulogy at Bill's funeral, he finds himself in conflict with Ruth— who is revealed to be Bill's oversexed mother— and Julie DeMarco, a longstanding crush Tom hasn't seen since they were teenagers.
