The Reader
The story of Michael Berg, a German lawyer who, as a teenager in the late 1950s, had an affair with an older woman named Hanna. Hanna then disappeared, only to show up years later as one of the defendants in a war crimes trial because of what she did as a guard at a concentration camp at the end of the war. The only person who knows that Hanna is illiterate and may be hiding this knowledge at the cost of her freedom is him.
