Diz (Joel Courtney) is a rambunctious adolescent on the run. As a child, he was abandoned by his parents, so he looks out for himself and refuses handouts. He grabs whatever he can get his hands on and flees. Diz leads a life of thievery and abandonment, jaded and determined to answer to no one. When Diz floats into a small town on the Snake River, everything changes for him. There, he meets an unflappable old man named Marty and falls for Marty's guarded granddaughter, Selah. When Diz robs a local drug dealer, he becomes the owner of a large sum of money and the target of two vicious killers. With more money than he knows what to do with and criminals on his tail, Diz puts the people he's grown to care about in danger while still trying to win Selah. However, some things cannot be stolen or purchased. The River Thief is a film about guilt, self-sacrifice, and accepting life as a gift.
