Jim Morris never got out of the minor leagues before a shoulder injury ended his pitching career twelve years ago. Jim is now married with children and works as a high school chemistry teacher and baseball coach in Texas. His team makes a deal with him: if they win the district championship, Jim will try out with a major-league team. The bet gives the team enough motivation to go from last to first, and for the first time in the school's history, they make it to state. Jim is almost laughed off the tryout field when he has to live up to his end of the deal. But when he gets on the mound, he surprises the scouts and himself by throwing a series of 98 mph fastballs, which earns him a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim still has to throw a lot of pitches before he gets to The Show, but now that his big-league dreams are back, who knows where he could go.
