The Sensitives

Xanthopoulos' documentary features Joe, the patriarch whose illness is so pervasive that it has rendered him indifferent to his wife's long-suffering; twin brothers Sam and Nathan, musicians who are no longer able to breathe outside of their real-life "plastic bubble," and whose mother developed her illness when she was just 17 years old; and Joe's long-suffering wife, Karen. All of these characters have debilitating sensitivities to their surroundings. The cause of the impacts on these individuals is not known, but the actuality of the consequences is undeniable. Regardless of the cause, the results are undeniable. We are fortunate that Susie Molloy is willing to help, despite her own chemical sensitivity. She is an advocate for those afflicted by this modern ailment, and in sharing their experiences, Xanthopoulos has created a film that is as delicate as its title implies. Cara Cusumano is the name of the character.
