The Seventh Seal
When the disillusioned Swedish knight Antonius Block returns home from the Crusades to discover his country in the throes of the Black Death, he dares Death to a game of chess for his life. The winner will take Antonius's life. Block, who is tormented by the idea that God does not exist, decides to go on a journey. Along the way, he runs into Jof and his wife, Mia, who are also traveling players. Block becomes resolved to outrun death long enough to perform one act of atonement while he is still alive.
