Many previous and present Hong Kong film stars are featured in the early 1990s action comedy The Shootout. Popstar Aaron Kwok plays Fai, a very novice police officer who unintentionally captures a member of a thieving gang. But when Elvis Tsui, the ruthless commander of the gang, infiltrates Police HQ to kill one of his own, Fai loses his collar! Thankfully, the police recruit two "experienced" police officers, Lau (Sean Lau Ching Wan) and Ma (Leung Ka Yan), to assist in apprehending the criminals. Min (Fennie Yuen), the club singer to whom Fai is drawn and the girlfriend of the main villain, aids in their inquiry. With excellent police work and possibly a little luck, the police are able to reassemble in time for a bloody conclusion. The Shootout is highlighted by brutality and outrageous, thrilling action, but what keeps it funny are the charismatic stars and quick-witted humor.
