Helen, a lovely young mute, works as a domestic helper for the old and ailing Mrs. Warren in 1916. Mrs. Warren's two adult sons live in the Warren mansion as well: Albert (a professor) and womanizing impudent Steven. Mrs. Warren grows anxious for Helen's safety when the neighborhood is plagued by a spate of murders involving 'women with infirmities.' She begs her physician, Dr. Parry, to remove Helen for her own protection. Helen is clearly in danger as another murder occurs inside the Warren estate.
