German Colonel Von Waldheim wants to bring all of France's famous paintings back to Germany as the Allied forces approach Paris in August 1944. The confusion of retreat does not stop him from arranging transportation for the priceless treasures of art. In order to prevent the Nazis from seizing their national treasures, the French resistance has received orders from London not to destroy them. It's the station master, Labiche, who's in charge of making sure the train runs on time and without a hitch. He's also one of the last of the resistance fighters trying to stop it from happening. He sets up a complex ruse with the help of others to prevent the train from leaving French territory.
