When their kid dies in an accident, Gemma and Will are devastated. Gemma hates herself and has panic attacks that damage her vision and the audience's. Tormented Will believes he hears his son's voice. Gemma advises they accept Paul's invitation to stay at his Lake District rural retreat. Her ex-pharmacist, Paul, helps Gemma stop her panic attacks. Will, unable to hear his son in his room, antagonizes Paul and leaves. Gemma now relies on Paul, who appears to genuinely care for her. Gemma's story is one of love, loss, and human fragility.
