The White Sun of the Desert

The backdrop is the east coast of the Caspian Sea (today's Turkmenistan), where Red Army soldier Fyodor Sukhov has been fighting the Russian Asia Civil War for several years. He returns home to join his wife after being hospitalized and demobbed, only to be caught up in a desert battle between a Red Army cavalry force and Basmachi guerrillas. Rahimov, the commander of the cavalry troop, "convinces" Sukhov to temporarily assist with the protection of abandoned women from Basmachi rebel leader Abdullah's harem. Rahimov and his cavalry regiment headed out to chase Abdullah, leaving a young Red Army man, Petrukha, to aid Sukhov with the assignment. Sukhov and the women of Abdullah's harem return to a nearby seaside village. Soon after, Abdullah and his gang arrive in the same village, looking for a route across the border...
