Time of the Wolves

The criminal, played by Robert Hossein and modeled after the American gangster John Dillinger, is being pursued by the inspector, played by Charles Aznavour, a childhood friend of the inspector's. The perpetrator of the crime is cornered through a combination of gunplay and psychological manipulation. Stella, his lover, is the only person he allows himself to feel truly vulnerable around (Virna Lisi). Dillinger is encircled by the police, and during the ensuing gun battle, he is responsible for the deaths of several innocent people who were there in the throng. When the man in danger runs out of shots, the mob makes the decision to take matters into their own hands by bringing a rope up to him and threatening to hang him.
