Mathilde (Paradis), a seventeen-year-old girl with no parents, is the protagonist of the story. Her philosophy instructor, Francois (Cremer), occurs to cross her path and is ready to assist her in acquiring additional knowledge. He begins to visit her house every day to assist her with her schoolwork and instruct her in the art of study. Mathilde eventually begins dropping indications that she finds the 47-year-old Francois attractive. Even though he attempts to reject her, he finds himself falling for her as well. They must keep their affair a secret from his wife (Mikal) and the school, but their love blossoms quickly.
