Some American Army nurses are taken by the Japanese in April 1942. They spend three years in a prisoner of war camp in Bataan, where they are held for three years. Margaret Ann Jessup, the head nurse in the army, survives the camp and testifies against the Japanese in front of a U.S. Congressional subcommittee years later as a colonel, which is what she did.
