American High is a documentary television show that follows the lives of fourteen students at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois. The show debuted on Fox and was canceled after four episodes. PBS later took it up and showed it in its entirety. R. J. Cutler, an award-winning documentary filmmaker, created the series. The show won an Emmy for Outstanding Nonfiction Program in 2001. Bouncing Souls wrote and performed the theme tune "American High." Yearbook, a Fox Network documentary series that aired in 1991, likewise followed the lives of suburban Chicago high school students.
