Andromeda is a Canadian/American science fiction television series based on abandoned material by the late Gene Roddenberry, written by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and produced by Roddenberry's widow Majel Barrett. Kevin Sorbo portrayed High Guard Captain Dylan Hunt. The launch of the series occurred on October 2, 2000, and it concluded on May 13, 2005. Andromeda was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, by Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment, who also served as producers. It was distributed on Global TV in Canada and by WGN and other channels in the United States. It was picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel midway through the fourth season in the United States. Andromeda is one of two television programs based on ideas established by Roddenberry in the 1960s and 1970s. Dylan Hunt was also the name of the protagonist in two TV movie pilots made by Roddenberry in the mid-1970s, Genesis II and Planet Earth, which shared a similar idea. Earth: Final Conflict is the other series posthumously constructed from Roddenberry's notes.
