Arena

Arena was a competitive gaming television show on G4/G4techTV that ran from 2002 to 2004. The format of the show was a LAN party where teams competed in multiplayer video games. A running tournament format was included in several episodes of the show. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Call of Duty, for example, have episodes that cross over. Teams can also talk about themselves and explain how their team name came to be. In2004, Team ZoMBiE became the Ultimate Arena Champions by winning the Tournament of Champions. In2005, Team Kaizen became the Ultimate Arena Champions by winning the Tournament of Champions. Wil Wheaton and Travis Oates were the show's initial hosts, but both quit owing to issues with the show's producer, Jim Downs, many of which Wheaton revealed in a Slashdot post. Lee Reherman and Michael Louden have taken their place. Reherman and Kevin Pereira were the last hosts. Studio 2 was used to film the first two seasons. Filming moved to Studio3, the largest studio in G4's old headquarters, in 2004 for the show's third and final season. When word of the TechTV buyout spread, the show banked some episodes before being terminated in July 2004 to make way for three former TechTV properties: X-Play, The Screen Savers, and Unscrewed with Martin Sargent.
