Asylum

In 1996, the Paramount Comedy Channel aired a British comedy series called Asylum. Set in a mental hospital, it ran for one season of six episodes. Unlike traditional sitcoms or comedy TV shows, it gave some comedians a chance to do stand-up routines, and the overall story had a lot of dark humor. The fact that so many British comedians were involved makes it noteworthy; many of them went on to work on some of the most popular comedic shows of the last decade. It was the first time Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Stevenson worked together. They went on to make the cult sitcom Spaced. Many of the character names were the same as those of the actors who played them. David Devant & His Spirit Wife were the "house band" for the show. They played segments from their first album, Work, Lovelife, Miscellaneous, in every episode. The title music for the show was "Ginger," which was the first song played when the show started. The series is not yet on DVD, but you can watch the full episodes on Norman Lovett's website.
