In the show, the protagonist, Rudy Tabootie, is a young boy who attends elementary school. He uses his magic chalk to enter the ChalkZone, a parallel universe in which everything that is painted on a blackboard and then erased becomes a reality. Inside the zone, the focus of the show is on the antics that Rudy, his sidekick Snap, and his classmate Penny Sanchez get into. The animated short film ChalkZone was first presented to the public in 1998 as a part of Fred Seibert's Oh Yeah! Cartoons showcase for short animated films. The television show aired on Nickelodeon from March22,2002, to August23,2008, for a total of 42 episodes; however, the most recent two episodes were never shown to the public. Nelvana, a Canadian firm, was responsible for its distribution in countries other than the United States of America.
