Denn Coil is a Japanese science fiction anime television series that depicts a near future in which semi-immersive augmented reality technology has just begun to permeate the public. The series is also known as Coil— A Circle of Children. The events of the series take place in the fictitious city of Daikoku, which is a center of augmented reality (AR) innovation and is in the process of developing a city-wide virtual infrastructure. It follows a group of children as they utilize augmented reality glasses (AR glasses) to unravel the mysteries of the half real, half Internet metropolis. Along the way, they influence the digital world by employing a variety of unlawful software tools, tactics, and virtual pets. Denn Coil marks the debut of Mitsuo Iso, a Japanese animator, in the role of series director. The project has been in the works for more than a decade.
