Get a Life

This television sitcom ran from September 23, 1990, to March 8, 1992, on the Fox Network in the United States. Chris Elliott portrays a 30-year-old paperboy named Chris Peterson in the show, which is based on a true story. In the garage above his parents' house, Peterson lived in an apartment with his parents. R.E.M.'s "Stand" plays over a scene in which Chris Peterson rides his bike to deliver newspapers. Elliott, Adam Resnick, and writer/director David Mirkin collaborated on the project. Director and executive producer Mirkin was responsible for the majority of the show's episodes. Charlie Kaufman, who wrote Being John Malkovich, and Bob Odenkirk, co-creator of Mr. Show with Bob and David and Tenacious D, were among the series' notable writers. Even for a late night prime-time sitcom, the show's stories were often strange. There are twelve episodes where Elliott's character dies. Toxicology, tonsillitis, stab wounds, bullet wounds and falling from an airplane were just a few of the causes of death that were included in the obituaries. Elliott and Mirkin had a difficult time getting the show on the air because of this. Many Fox Network execs despised the show because they thought it was scary enough and because Elliott's character was irrational enough.
