Fuyumi Ono's light novel series, Ghost Hunt, was originally titled Akury Series. In this series, the Shibuya Psychic Research Center investigates unusual phenomena across Japan with a crew of other spiritualists and witty sidekicks in tow. Despite the fact that the final novel in the series was published in 1994, the story was never finished. Even though Fuyumi Ono's statement that she was resuming work on a "girls' horror narrative" that she begun long ago has never been formally verified to be in relation to Ghost Hunt, speculation over the series' future arose. On Akury Series, a radio play was created from the novels in 1997. It began serialization in the July 7, 1998 edition of Nakayoshi, where it is still ongoing, with a manga adaptation written and illustrated by Shiho Inada. Kodansha has produced eleven tankobon volumes including the separate chapters of the book. Ghost Hunt is licensed for English-language publication by Del Rey Manga in North America and Tanoshimi in the UK. J.C.Staff made an anime adaptation of the manga and premiered on October 3, 2006, on TV Tokyo, where it aired for twenty-five episodes until its end. Region 1 DVDs of Ghost Hunt have been licensed for English release by Funimation Entertainment, which also goes by the moniker Ghost Hunt.
