G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is a half-hour American animated television series based on the popular Hasbro toy line and the Marvel Comics franchise. The cartoon began with two five-part mini-series in 1983 and1984, before evolving into a regular series that aired in syndication from 1985 to 1986. Ron Friedman developed and scripted all four G.I. Joe miniseries for television. Due to production issues, the fourth mini-series was released as a television mini-series.
