Hippies

Swinging London, 1969. Ray Purbbs and Alex, Jill, and Hugo, three other hippies, help him run a "underground" (that is, counterculture) magazine called Mouth from his flat in Notting Hill Gate. Ray is very interested in protesting, goes crazy over every new trend, and thinks he is (or could be) a major player in the battle between the Establishment and the alternative society. Alex is the definition of cool, a man so laid-back that he seems to exist outside of reality. He comes from a wealthy family and seems more interested in golf than in changing society. Jill loves the new freedoms her gender gives her and says she believes in free love, but this doesn't apply to her "boyfriend," Ray, who hasn't been interested in her for a long time. Hugo is incredibly vague, and this vagueness is almost brilliant. The four people, led by Ray, jump on every popular trend, but nothing they do makes the slightest bit of a difference. The group isn't very good at anything; they're not even good at being hippies.
