Andre Carlson (David Hornsby) is an etiquette columnist who lives a life disconnected from modern society because of his adherence to more traditional values. "Bert Lansing (Kevin Dillon) is an infectiously cheerful former "bad boy" from Andrew's past who now owns his own fitness club." After being told by his editor, Jerry (Dave Foley), that he must modernize his column or be fired, Bert, a life coach, is hired by Andrew to help him become less "gentle man" and more "real guy."
