In the Heat of the Night is an American television series based on the same-titled film and novel, starring Carroll O'Connor as the white police chief William Gillespie and Howard Rollins as the black police detective Virgil Tibbs. From 1988 to 1992, it was televised on NBC, and from 1993 to 1995, it was broadcast on CBS. Fred Silverman, Juanita Bartlett, and Carroll O'Connor served as executive producers. The first season of the series was published on DVD by TGG Direct on August 28, 2012.
