Kindred: The Embraced

A television series called Kindred: The Embraced is a joint production between John Leekley Productions and Spelling Television. The series began on Fox on April2,1996, and lasted eight episodes before being canceled on May9,1996. It was loosely inspired on the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. During the course of his investigation into suspected mobster Julian Luna, Detective Frank Kohanek of the San Francisco Police Department learns that his city is home to a large number of vampires. A clan of vampires, collectively known as "The Kindred," rule the city as Julian's "prince." Vampires remain undetected because of the "masquerade" they use to pass for humans, and Julian is a staunch defender of their secrecy. As they try to avert a vampire war, Julian and Frank create an uneasy alliance, and Caitlin Byrne, a human reporter, becomes a source of conflict for Julian. The eight episodes of the show have been made available on VHS and DVD for home viewing.
