Leave It to Beaver

Leave It to Beaver is an American situation comedy about a curious and often naive boy named Theodore "The Beaver" Cleaver and his adventures at home, in school, and around his suburban neighborhood. Beaver's parents, June and Ward Cleaver, were played by Barbara Billingsley and Hugh Beaumont, and Beaver's brother, Wally, was played by Tony Dow. In the US, the show has become an icon, and the Cleavers have come to represent the idealized suburban family of the middle of the 20th century. Writers Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher came up with the idea for the show. The lives, experiences, and conversations of their own children gave these radio and early TV veterans ideas for the show's characters, plots, and dialogue. Leave It to Beaver was one of the first sitcoms to be written from the point of view of a child. Leave It to Beaver, like many other shows from the late 1950s and early 1960s, shows what it was like to grow up as a white middle-class boy in America. In a typical episode, Beaver would get into some kind of trouble, and then his parents would tell him off and tell him what to do instead. But neither parent knew everything. In fact, the show often showed the parents arguing about how to raise their kids, and some episodes were based on mistakes made by the parents.
