Life of Crime is about a female police officer named Denise Woods. The drama takes place over 30 years, starting with the Brixton Riots of 1985 and following Denise as she moves up in the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Service. She has trouble at first in a very male-dominated field where sexism is common and female officers have to work hard to be accepted. But as dawn breaks one September morning, Denise goes with DS Ray Deans to a crime scene where they find the body of a teenage girl who has been beaten, bruised, and strangled. Denise is determined to find out who killed Anna because she has met the teenager before. Denise goes against her superiors' clear instructions and advice and follows her own lines of inquiry because Anna's murder isn't what it seems at first. As the investigation goes on, Denise's passion for the case gets her in trouble with her boss, DCI Ferguson.
