Lights Out

Lights Out was a popular old-time radio show in the United States, and it was an early example of a network series devoted to horror and the supernatural, predating Suspense and Inner Sanctum. From January 1934 to the summer of1947, numerous versions of Lights Out appeared on various networks at various times, and the series eventually made the transfer to television. Lights Out was first broadcast on television in 1946 as a series of four specials produced by Fred Coe, who also provided three of the scripts. "First Person Singular," which is narrated exclusively from the point of view of an unseen murderer who kills his irritating wife and ends up being executed, was commissioned by NBC and Cooper wrote the script. Lights Out did not become a regular NBC-TV series until1949, despite receiving outstanding reviews in Variety ("undoubtedly one of the best dramatic shows yet seen on a television screen").
